UK Ring Size Guide

Ring size is easy to get approximately right and surprisingly easy to get precisely wrong. Fingers change with temperature, time of day and swelling, while wide bands can fit differently from narrow ones. Whenever possible, use a properly sized ring or professional measurement as the reference.

UK sizes use letters

UK ring sizes are commonly expressed as letters with intermediate half sizes. The useful physical reference is the internal circumference or internal diameter of a correctly fitting ring.

Best method: measure a ring that already fits

If you have access to a ring worn on the same finger, measure its internal diameter carefully or compare it with a reliable sizing tool. Do not include the metal thickness in the measurement.

Why string and paper can mislead

Flexible materials can stretch, compress the finger or be pulled too tightly, leading to an inaccurate result. They are better as a rough cross-check than as the only measurement for a valuable made-to-order ring.

Account for band width and temperature

Fingers can be smaller when cold and larger when warm. Wider bands generally feel tighter than narrow bands at the same nominal size. Measure more than once under normal conditions.

Frequently asked questions

What if I am between two ring sizes?

The correct choice depends on the band width, knuckle size and how the ring feels. For a made-to-order ring, use the most reliable physical measurement available rather than guessing.

Can I measure from a photo?

A photo can help only when it contains a reliable scale reference and is taken without perspective distortion. A physical ring measurement remains preferable.

Does ring width affect sizing?

Yes. Wider bands can feel tighter and may require a different size choice than a very narrow band.
