IGI Diamond Certification Explained

A grading report is a measurement document, not a substitute for looking at the diamond. Used correctly, it helps compare stones on a consistent set of characteristics and confirms that the report belongs to an identified diamond.

What an IGI report records

Reports can include carat weight, measurements, colour, clarity, proportions, polish, symmetry, fluorescence and identifying information. The exact fields depend on the report type and stone.

Certification is not a beauty score

Two stones can share the same headline grades yet look different because of proportions, inclusion placement, faceting and shape character. Use the report to narrow options, then evaluate the actual stone or imagery.

Check the report details

Match the report number and measurements to the stone information supplied by the retailer. Where laser inscription information is provided, that can add another way to connect the stone with its report.

How Panastara describes certification

Panastara does not issue diamond grading reports. Where a centre stone is described as IGI certified, it is supplied with the corresponding independent IGI grading report.

Frequently asked questions

Is IGI independent from Panastara?

Yes. Panastara does not issue IGI reports; IGI is a separate grading organisation.

Does an IGI certificate tell me if a diamond is beautiful?

It records graded characteristics, but visual preference also depends on proportions, faceting and the individual stone.

Should I keep my diamond report?

Yes. Keep the report and other purchase documentation with your records after delivery.
